Fixed and removable braces, aligners, and retainers

A beautiful smile means more than aesthetics – properly aligned teeth are easier to clean, reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease, and ensure correct chewing. Orthodontic treatment, with fixed or removable braces, is recommended for both children and adults to correct crowding, spacing, or bite problems.

Schedule an orthodontic consultation and find out which type of braces is right for you.

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces are the most common method for correcting teeth alignment. They use brackets bonded to the teeth and a metal wire that applies controlled pressure to guide teeth into the correct position.

Depending on preferences and budget, there are different options such as metal beaces, sapphire braces or Iconix.

Fixed braces are recommended for both teenagers and adults, providing long-lasting results and a significant improvement in dental health and aesthetics.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a modern, comfortable solution for straightening teeth. The treatment uses sets of transparent, custom-made trays, such as Invisalign or Spark, which are replaced periodically to gradually move the teeth into their proper position

The main advantages are their nearly invisible appearance, the ability to remove them while eating or brushing, and the increased comfort compared to fixed braces. They are an excellent choice for patients who want discretion and flexibility without compromising on orthodontic effectiveness.

Palatal Expander

A palatal expander is most often used in children and adolescents during growth to correct narrow jaws and create space for teeth. It works by gradually widening the dental arch, preventing crowding and supporting a correct bite.

Treatment with a palatal expander is simple, quick, and well-tolerated, with stable results when applied at the right age. This makes it possible to prevent many complex orthodontic issues from developing later on.

Retainer

Retention is the final stage of orthodontic treatment and is essential for maintaining the achieved results. After braces are removed, teeth naturally tend to shift back to their original position. To prevent this, retention devices are used: either a fixed retainer (a discreet wire bonded to the back of the front teeth) or removable transparent aligners worn at night.

Retention ensures the stability and longevity of orthodontic treatment, preserving a healthy, beautiful smile over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

The first steps can be taken as early as 6–7 years old with removable appliances that support proper jaw development. Fixed braces are usually applied after the age of 12, but orthodontic treatment can also be carried out in adults, regardless of age.
The duration depends on the type of problem and the appliance chosen. On average, treatment can last between 12 months and 3 years. It is important to attend regular check-ups to monitor progress and adjust the appliance.
Braces are not painful by themselves, but at the beginning and after adjustments, you may feel pressure or mild discomfort. This usually disappears within a few days and can be managed with mild pain relievers or orthodontic wax if the cheeks get irritated.
Patients with fixed braces should avoid hard foods (nuts, pretzels), sticky foods (caramels, chewing gum), and very crunchy foods (popcorn). These can damage the brackets or wires.
After braces are removed, retention is essential to keep teeth in their new position. In general, retainers are worn for several years, and in some cases may be required permanently (as a small wire bonded behind the front teeth). If a removable retainer is prescribed, it is usually worn at night, as directed by the orthodontist. The exact duration varies from patient to patient — but the longer the retainer is worn, the more stable the results will be.
