Root Canal Treatments (Endodontics)
The term "endodontics" comes from the Greek language and means "the inside of the tooth". Thus, endodontics is the treatment inside the tooth, respectively infections of the dental pulp and their complications. Basically, endodontics deals with the treatment of complicated caries, when bacteria have infected the dental pulp, and at a more advanced stage, the tissues around the root of a tooth.
Rapid elimination of pain
Keeping the natural tooth on the arch
Removal of bacteria from inside the affected tooth
Avoiding costs that could occur to the loss of the natural tooth.
A correct root canal treatment is the basis of any prosthetic work
At New Dental, root canal treatments are performed by specialized personnel under a Leica microscope or Zeiss magnifying glasses.

What are the advantages of a root canal treatment?

Rapid elimination of pain

The most common toothache is related to damage to the dental pulp. This toothache has been called, in the past, by specialists at rage de dents – the cry of teeth.
An untreated caries leads to damage to the nerve of the tooth, causing pain that often does not succumb to common analgesics. In this moment the damage to the pulp (nerve) is irreversible. Root canal treatment is imminent.
Under local anesthesia, extirpation (nerve extraction) is practiced. With the removal of the affected tissue, the pain also disappears. Depending on the situation, the canal can be permanently shuttered in the same session, or it is timed by applying antibiotic or calcium hydroxide, or other disinfectants inside the canals.
Any root canal treatment is considered completed only after the root canal obturation itself (final filling with specific biocompatible sterile substances).

Keeping the natural tooth on the arch

Despite the evolution of dental implantology, an implant will never be more beneficial than a healthy natural tooth, or a well-treated one. By keeping natural teeth, expensive, elaborate, long-lasting procedures of possible other treatments are avoided.
Moreover, any dental extraction that is not followed by a rehabilitation leads to tooth migrations and damage to the temporo-mandibular joint. So it is very important to keep the natural tooth on the archway for as long as possible.

When is endodontic treatment necessary?

- sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet that persists long after the removal of the painful stimulus
– pain at mastication
– dull, spontaneous or pulsating pain
- persistent pain in a tooth on which a filling (filling) or a covering crown has been placed
– pain in a tooth that has been treated endodontically
– tooth with abnormal mobility
– an abscess with a dental starting point
– a tooth that has changed its color
– a tooth apparently asymptomatic, but which caused an damage to the bone around the root (the diagnosis is strictly radiological)

An endodontic condition left untreated can lead to tooth loss, but also to other complications related to the health of the bone around it.
Attention! There are teeth that, although they do not miss, still require endodontic treatment.

How is an endodontic treatment carried out?

The first step – eliminating pain and discomfort
Step two – treatment and disinfection of dental canals.
Step three – the permanent obturation of the channels. This is carried out with a sterile material, which does not dissolve, and which provides a perfect sealing of the channels inside the dental root. The filling represents the end of any endodontic treatment, being visible on the control X-rays, performed at the end.
